About SKUit
Why we built it, and how it works.
We built SKUit to solve a problem faced by all network engineers: How do I create a Bill of Materials for a network with a high degree of confidence? This seems like a simple problem that any chatbot could answer, but it turns out that there are millions of combinations for each switch, router, firewall or load balancer, based on the network adaptors, line cards, optics, software licenses and so on. When you factor in end-of-life issues, compatibility issues and rulesets, chatbots often get things wrong — and it can take days to pull together a Bill of Materials you, as a network engineer, feel happy about submitting to a customer or placing an order with.
To solve this problem, we married the expertise of network professionals with AI to create a detailed knowledge base on many network products from major vendors. To front-end this knowledge base, we created a workflow-based chat engine which asks a series of questions to first recommend which products fit your use case, then builds your Bill of Materials rapidly, based on the rulesets from our experts. Once built, you can download as an Excel spreadsheet or CSV, or store them in our backend so they become templates for your future deployments.
We’ve made the system vendor agnostic, meaning we’ll show you the differences between products from each of the vendors and enable you to build a Bill of Materials with the same use case from different vendors.
One thing we decided not to do is offer product pricing (although we do categorize products based on their position in the market). You will of course need pricing eventually, and this can be delivered by your vendor or partner along with the Bill of Materials we provide.
